About this guide

VisitMarburg.com is a private, independent travel guide. It is not the official website of the City of Marburg or its tourism board.

VisitMarburg.com is edited by Phone Book of the World, based in the old Hôtel de Villeroy Bourbon / VB.com in Paris — a telecommunications hotspot and, once upon a time, seat of the Royal French Postal Services.

The dot com domain VisitMarburg.com is part of the Phone Book of the World domain collection, which started in the 1990s. If you have a passion for Marburg and a project that adds more content than what we have created, you can still acquire — or lease — the domain.

If you run a website with interesting information for tourists — a museum, for example — we can integrate it into the search engine on the VisitMarburg.com home page. Just write to us via the Contact page.

Why “Visit”? The expression comes from “Visitors Bureau”, the American, British and Scandinavian term for a tourist office. Read more in The Visit network.

Visit Branding is adopted by more and more private and official actors,
powerful Travel Guides, Hotel Organisations, modern thinking Agencies
official Convention and Visitors Bureau
and even local corporations in Love with the culture of their home town.

VisitMarburg.com is part of an international heritage promotion initiative by VB.com (Very Beautiful / Visitors Bureau).
VB.com is like a Mona Lisa of the tech world.
The adjacent letters "V B" right above the spacebar are ultra type-friendly.
And VB is like a "billboard" with extreme global visibility making it so easy to connect with Marburg.

Part of the “Visit Project”

Visit Marburg.com is an independent, non-official website and part of the “Visit Project” of Phone Book of the World — an initiative to encourage the creation of beautiful, modern internet sites that promote cultural heritage.

“Visit” domains are like little jewels. Visit Marburg.com belongs to a network of more than 1,100 “Visit” sites around the world, all built on the same easy pattern: “Visit”, the name of a destination, then dot com.

The domain VisitMarburg.com can be acquired or leased. The site is currently in “development status 2”: the more it is developed, the higher its price will be.

A joker for your business in Marburg

Imagine you operate a hotel, a café or a museum in Marburg: a “Visit” domain can become a real joker for your business. Find out why:

The domain is listed on two domain marketplaces, GoDaddy and Sedo.

Visit + destination .com

The “Visit + destination .com” domain phenomenon started between California, Norway, Britain and Paris. The first domains were registered in 1995 / 1996 by avant-garde Visitors Bureaus (VB / CVB) located in the areas where the Internet was born.

At the same time the “Cybercafé de Paris” opened — a web café located at VB.com / Hôtel de Villeroy Bourbon / Crèmerie de Paris. This is where Phone Book of the World was invented.

The café also launched the concept of Pop Up Stores.

VB had the chance to run into Steve Jobs, who already had the future iPhone keyboard in mind. He gave the valuable advice to avoid the “-”, incompatible with the not-yet-existing iPhones: hyphens would soon make a website look outdated.

Visit Marburg.com follows this advice: a simple dot com address, without hyphens.

Situation in Germany

In 2007 / 2011 Berlin Tourismus und Congress GmbH was the first to rebrand, from a bulky Berlin-Tourist-Information.de to “Visit Berlin”, acquiring the Visit Berlin.com domain.

Yet many German cities still do not even have a dedicated URL for tourist information. In many cities the “Tourist Info” is squeezed into an administrative portal, next to parking tickets or sanitary issues. Others use outdated-looking internet addresses ending in .de, with hyphens that are ill-suited to smartphones — and some German cities do not even have tourist information in English.

But in 2025 two more German states replaced outdated URLs with “Visit”.
